On 7th May 2014 the town was hit with the threat of the closure of its local community hospital. This represented the potential last straw for healthcare in the area.
As soon as the local population was aware of the potential hospital closure a community action group came together and started to use social media to mobilize the population.
Learning from the Millom experience, a great example of how the NHS NWLA was able to build on the successes of a transformation in local healthcare provision and contribute to a systems leadership model which could be replicated across the North West and beyond.
